Sewer system smoke testing underway in Upper Chichester Township
Vortex will smoke-test sewer lines in parts of Upper Chichester over the next three weeks; outdoor smoke is normal, but indoor smoke may signal a plumbing defect—call 911 if you suspect a fire.
Vortex is conducting smoke testing of the sewer system in parts of Upper Chichester Township this week (Twin Oaks), next week (area behind McDonald’s off Market Street) and the following week (Johnson Avenue) to locate broken pipes, leaks and other defects using a Hurco Technologies Pipeline Smoke Tester and laboratory-tested, non-toxic LiquiSmoke. Residents may notice smoke from sewer vents, manholes or lawns; if smoke enters a home or business it may indicate an open cleanout cap, unvented drain or other plumbing defect that could allow hazardous sewer gases — have plumbing inspected and corrected, and if you see smoke and are unsure or believe there is an actual fire or emergency, call 911.
