Stay Cool. Stay Safe. Beat the Heat Dome

Protect yourself, loved ones, and pets during prolonged extreme heat with hydration, cooling, and safety tips.

A prolonged period of extreme heat can be dangerous for everyone. Drink plenty of water (avoid alcohol, caffeine and sugary drinks), wear lightweight, loose-fitting light-colored clothing with a hat and sunglasses, and stay in air-conditioned places when possible while using fans, closing blinds during the day and opening windows at night when cooler. Check on elderly neighbors and others without air conditioning, limit strenuous outdoor activity between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM, and keep pets indoors with fresh water while avoiding walking them on hot pavement.
