Tamara L. (Newman) Welch (1959 – 2026)

Tamara L. (Newman) Welch, 67, of Hellertown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital-Bethlehem Campus. She was the loving wife of the late Donald M. Welch, who passed away on Aug. 23, 2008. Born in Toronto, Canada on March 13, 1959, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Sheila (Botting) Newman. Tammy dedicated her life to caring for others, working as a Registered Nurse in the health care industry at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem for 37 years. Deeply rooted in her faith and community, she was a dedicated member of New Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lower Saucon Township. Tammy generously gave her time and talents to her church congregation, serving as a past councilperson and participating in Fosters of Love, coffee hour, the Food Bank, Sunday School, VBS, Altar Guild, Pre-School and the Search Committee. She was also actively involved with the Saucon Valley Lions Club. Tammy volunteered in many community functions. In her free time, she found joy in reading, gardening, knitting, attending Music in the Park, watching Jeopardy, baking, cooking and participating in local book clubs.

SURVIVORS

Tammy is survived by her children, Michelle L.W. Borges (husband Jeff) of Salem, Mass., and Donald E. Welch of Hellertown; her fiancé, Larry D. Brown of Hellertown; and her siblings, Wesley E. Newman (wife April) of Smithville, Va., Michelle E. Lutz (husband Curt) of Ogallala, Neb., and Patrick Newman of Germany. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother.

SERVICES

Family and friends are invited to a visitation period from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026, at New Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3233 Apples Church Road, Bethlehem, PA 18015. The visitation period will be followed by the service at 10 a.m. Arrangements are entrusted to the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., Hellertown.
