Two arrested after North Charleston traffic stop leads to brief pursuit; drugs seized

A traffic stop near Kapstone Park on Remount Road escalated into a roughly 1.5-mile police pursuit Saturday afternoon; officers recovered about one gram of a substance that field-tested presumptive positive for cocaine and fentanyl.

Around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, North Charleston police conducting proactive patrols for drug activity observed a vehicle drive across grass, speed through Kapstone Park and run a stop sign before turning onto Remount Road. Officers activated blue lights and sirens but the driver failed to stop, continuing about 1.5 miles before pulling into a parking lot at 1444 Remount Road. Police found several open beer containers and approximately one gram of a white powder on 22-year-old Carillo Mazariegos Wilder Tiburcio of Ladson that field-tested presumptive positive for cocaine and fentanyl; Tiburcio faces multiple charges including failure to stop and possession with intent to distribute, while 25-year-old passenger Kender Saucedo Garcia was charged with an open container; both were taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
