Two Arrests in Separate Domestic Violence Incidents in Mesa County
Patrol deputies arrested a Grand Junction woman and a Loma man after two unrelated domestic violence incidents on July 9, 2026.
On July 9, 2026, Mesa County deputies arrested 42-year-old Deborah Wheeler of Grand Junction after an 11:30 a.m. investigation into a suspected trespass, reported domestic dispute and vehicle damage; she was booked on third-degree assault, second-degree criminal tampering, criminal mischief (under $300) and a domestic violence charge. That evening at about 9:40 p.m. deputies arrested 22-year-old Shawn M. Russell, Jr., in Loma on a felony strangulation charge (second-degree assault with intent to cause serious bodily injury), two counts of third-degree assault and a domestic violence charge; injuries consistent with assault and strangulation were documented. Both were booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility, deputies say the incidents are unrelated and pose no public threat, and the sheriff’s office urged anyone experiencing domestic violence to call 911.
