Two Pianos
A pianist’s return to Lyon sparks turmoil, unexpected reunions and a sensual, Hitchcockian melodrama.
After years of self-imposed exile, pianist Mathias (François Civil) returns to France when his former mentor Eléna (Charlotte Rampling) invites him to perform a series of concerts in his hometown of Lyon. A chance encounter with a child who looks like him throws Mathias into turmoil, threatens to drag him down, and leads him back to his first love, Claude (Nadia Tereszkiewicz); director Arnaud Desplechin revisits themes of psychologically charged homecomings and unexpected reunions in this sensual, Hitchcockian melodrama featuring one of Rampling’s most delicious roles in years.
