Two Pianos
A returning pianist confronts a mysterious doppelgänger and rekindles a past love during a concert residency in Lyon.
After years of self-imposed exile, pianist Mathias (François Civil) returns to France at the invitation of his former mentor Eléna (Charlotte Rampling) to perform a series of concerts in his hometown of Lyon. A chance encounter with a child who looks just like him destabilizes Mathias, threatening to drag him down and drawing him back to his first love, Claude (Nadia Tereszkiewicz). Director Arnaud Desplechin revisits themes of psychologically charged homecomings and unexpected reunions in this sensual, Hitchcockian melodrama, featuring one of Rampling’s most delicious roles in years.
