WWII soldier from Indiana County, Pa., identified after 80 years; will be buried near home

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency announced Friday that a Pennsylvania soldier killed during World War II has been identified more than 80 years after his death.

U.S. Army Pfc. John A. Walko, 20, of Commodore, Indiana County, was accounted for on July 16, 2025. The agency released additional details after Walko’s family received their full briefing on his identification.
