Auto theft disrupts daily life and communities; simple habits can reduce the risk.
When a vehicle is stolen, the loss affects more than the owner — it disrupts commutes, childcare, medical appointments and burdens communities with higher insurance and policing costs, Pennsylvania Auto Theft Prevention Authority executive director Steve Wheeler said. The Authority reports nearly half of stolen vehicles in Pennsylvania were left unlocked; drivers are urged to lock vehicles and take keys, remove valuables from sight, park in well-lit visible locations, never leave a vehicle running and unattended, and report suspicious activity to law enforcement.
