A jury in Dauphin County found Derrick Hutcherson guilty of attempted murder, two counts of kidnapping, endangering the welfare of a child, assault of a law enforcement officer, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; he was acquitted of burglary. The charges stem from a June 28, 2021 incident in which Hutcherson returned to the home of Mariah Lewis, assaulted and shot her (resulting in the complete loss of her left eye), then held Lewis’s 2-year-old child, Ace, and grandmother Wanda Jackson hostage for 33 hours until Pennsylvania State Police SERT forced entry and rescued them; Hutcherson fired two shots at officers during the entry but was not harmed. Judge Katherine McShane presided over the Aug. 17–19, 2026 trial, a presentence investigation was ordered, and sentencing is set for Oct. 14, 2026; the defendant remains incarcerated without bail.
