Hutcherson convicted of attempted murder, kidnapping and related charges
A Dauphin County jury convicted Derrick Hutcherson in August 2026 for crimes tied to a June 2021 home invasion, shooting and 33-hour hostage standoff.
A jury in Judge Katherine McShane’s courtroom convicted Derrick Hutcherson August 17–19, 2026, of attempted murder, two counts of kidnapping, endangering the welfare of a child, assault of a law enforcement officer, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; he was acquitted of burglary. On June 28, 2021, after being told not to return to the home of Mariah Lewis, Hutcherson punched and then shot her in the head—resulting in the loss of her left eye—then held her 2‑year‑old child Ace and Lewis’s grandmother Wanda Jackson hostage for 33 hours before Pennsylvania State Police SERT forced entry and rescued the hostages; Hutcherson fired two shots during the entry. A presentence investigation was ordered and sentencing is set for October 14, 2026; he remains incarcerated without bail.
