Lehigh discussion on impact of U.S. aid withdrawal
A lecture examined the effects of U.S. foreign aid cuts after USAID began shutting down in January 2025.
Lehigh’s International Relations Department hosted Cleo O’Brien-Udry, professor of international political economy at the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign, to discuss the consequences of U.S. aid withdrawal and the shutdown of the United States Agency for International Development. USAID began shutting down in January 2025 following President Donald Trump’s inauguration; O’Brien-Udry outlined the implications of that aid withdrawal and agency closure.
