Marlin Elrico Coffy charged with first-degree burglary and first-degree assault

North Charleston Police charged 55-year-old Marlin Elrico Coffy after a July 26 incident on the 3200 block of Meeting Street Road in which a homeowner confronted a man allegedly trying to steal an air-conditioning unit from a shed. Surveillance footage reportedly showed Coffy arriving on a bicycle and stealing an earlier unit shortly before 1:30 p.m.; during the confrontation the homeowner said Coffy shoved him and later punched him before fleeing. Officers located Coffy on Comstock Avenue the following Sunday, and after he was held on an outstanding narcotics warrant, NCPD formally charged him Monday with first-degree burglary and first-degree assault.
