Newberry Township police respond to shots-fired call; one person taken into custody

On August 19, 2026, just before 10:00 AM, Newberry Township Police responded to reports of shots fired near the Conewago Inn (3480 York Haven Rd.). A shelter-in-place was issued while officers, K-9 teams and air units from multiple agencies conducted a search; the shelter order was later lifted after no immediate danger was found. Police say one actor was taken into custody and charges are pending, there are no known injuries, and anyone with information should call 717-938-2608 as the investigation continues.
