Responsible Dog Ownership: Batavia Police Urge Compliance with Leash Laws
City reminds dog owners to keep pets leashed (maximum 6 feet), licensed and vaccinated, and to secure them to prevent escapes and penalties.
The Batavia Police Department is reminding dog owners that City Code requires dogs to be on a leash no longer than six feet in public and that failures to prevent dogs from running at large can result in fines. Owners should ensure dogs are licensed and vaccinated, and take measures such as obedience training and secure fencing if a dog is involved in an incident; the Vicious/Dangerous Dogs Law (Agriculture & Markets Law) may apply.
