Richland Township Police warn of phone scam impersonating officers
RTPD warns residents about callers spoofing department numbers and posing as officers to obtain money or personal data; verify suspicious calls by contacting the department directly.
The Richland Township Police Department is warning residents about phone scams in which callers use spoofing to appear as RTPD or other government agencies and pressure targets for money or sensitive information. A local resident reported a call in which the scammer, speaking with a Spanish or Indian accent, used an actual RTPD employee’s name and spoofed the department number; RTPD says do not provide personal or financial information and to verify calls by calling 814-266-8333 or Cambria County non-emergency dispatch at 814-472-2100.
