Mesa County Sheriff Todd Rowell sent Sgt. Tate Herland and Sgt. Lara Provorse to the National Jail Leadership Command Academy, where they were selected by the Correctional Management Institute of Texas and the American Jail Association and graduated as Class 56 on June 5. The week-long program required pre-assignments and covered agency culture, leadership, accountability, data management and networking; the sergeants said they spent more than the stated 40 hours and returned ready to implement and share what they learned. Division Chief Henry Stoffel said investing in future leaders benefits the agency and that the national professional network will help sustain best practices.
