Chief William T. Holdsworth, the only current member of the Kennett Square Police Department who was serving the community on Sept. 11, 2001, recounts the terrorist attacks—American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 hitting the World Trade Center, American Airlines Flight 77 striking the Pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93 crashing near Shanksville. He honors the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the 343 FDNY firefighters and other first responders who died, and urges teaching both the tragedy of Sept. 11 and the national unity and volunteerism that followed on Sept. 12. Holdsworth calls on the community to carry forward that spirit by serving neighbors, respecting differences, and remembering those who sacrificed.
