Culpeper man arrested after Orange Road crash topples pole, collapses gas station canopy
A single-vehicle crash on Orange Road on Aug. 18 brought down a utility pole and collapsed a gas station canopy; investigators say the driver was suspected of impairment and was arrested at the hospital.
On Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at approximately 3:23 p.m., a vehicle driven by 71-year-old David Green of Culpeper left the roadway near Orange Road and Germanna Highway, crossed the center line and struck a utility pole. The pole fell onto the canopy at C&C Shell, collapsing it and causing an estimated $100,000 in damage and a power outage while Dominion Energy crews replaced the pole; Orange Road was closed near the scene until about 1:00 a.m. on August 19. Green was transported to UVA Culpeper Medical Center, arrested at the hospital on suspicion of driving under the influence (Va. Code 18.2-266) with additional charges pending; no other injuries were reported and the investigation remains active.
