DeLand Police Deactivate Flock ALPRs; Chief Calls for Legislative Guardrails
DeLand Police have turned off all Flock automated license-plate readers after a Florida Department of Transportation directive and are urging lawmakers to create privacy safeguards so the technology can be used again.
The DeLand Police Department has deactivated all Flock Automated License Plate Readers (ALPR) in compliance with a Florida Department of Transportation directive. Chief Jason Umberger said he is concerned about losing the investigative tool, which helps locate stolen vehicles, suspects, missing children and elderly residents. He urged state leaders to establish clear legislative guardrails to address privacy concerns and restore public confidence so the technology can be returned to service.
