E-Bike Safety and Regulations in Pennsylvania
Shippensburg Police remind e-bike riders of state rules, minimum age and recommended safety measures.
The Shippensburg Police Department reminds residents that e-bikes in Pennsylvania are considered vehicles and must follow the same rules of the road as traditional bicycles — obey traffic laws, yield to pedestrians, ride with traffic and use bike lanes when available. Riders must be at least 16 to operate Class 1 or Class 2 e-bikes, wear a properly fitted helmet, avoid riding on sidewalks unless locally permitted, and are urged to use lights, wear reflective clothing, keep both hands on the handlebars except when signaling, and avoid distractions such as using a phone.
