Fountain Hill Fire Company Update
The volunteer-run Fountain Hill Fire Company, incorporated in 1905, continues serving the borough with regular training, apparatus maintenance, and year-round community programs.
The Fountain Hill Fire Company has long stood as a symbol of courage, dedication, and community spirit. Incorporated in 1905, the Company housed its first pumper in a shed on School Street near Fiot Street. Much has happened since then, and while firefighting has changed, one thing has remained the same: the Fountain Hill Fire Company is still entirely staffed by community volunteers, just as it was in 1905.
Volunteer fire departments play a unique role in communities like Fountain Hill. Unlike large city departments staffed by career firefighters, volunteer companies rely on residents who dedicate countless hours to training, fundraising, and emergency response while balancing work and family responsibilities. Members of the Fountain Hill Fire Company train regularly in firefighting techniques, rescue operations, equipment maintenance, and fire prevention education to ensure they are prepared for any emergency.
The department’s apparatus fleet reflects its commitment to readiness and safety. This year, the 2003 E-One 75-foot Side Stacker Aerial Truck is being refurbished, extending its service life by many years and keeping this valuable resource available to the community. In a borough like Fountain Hill, with narrow streets and multi-story buildings, this truck is one of the first pieces of equipment to respond to dwelling fires, structure fires, automatic fire alarms, and mutual aid fire calls.
Beyond emergency response, the Fountain Hill Fire Company remains deeply connected to the community it serves. Fire prevention programs and seasonal activities help strengthen relationships between firefighters and residents. Initiatives such as the Halloween Trunk-or-Treat, Christmas Tree Sale, Santa Run, Easter Egg Hunt, and Community Soaks bring people together throughout the year.
If you would like to get involved with this community organization, the Fountain Hill Fire Company is actively recruiting new members for firefighting, fire police, and support roles. There is also a Fire Department Auxiliary, which primarily assists with fundraising activities and social events. If you are interested, please stop by the firehouse to complete an application.
Training nights are held every Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
