Jose L. Gonzalez charged with theft by deception in phone scam
A Pocono Township resident is accused of stealing $997.01 by posing as a bank representative during a phone call.
On March 26, 2026, Pocono Township police received a complaint about a fraudulent phone call in which the caller posed as a banking company representative. Officers say 49-year-old Jose L. Gonzalez deceived the victim and stole $997.01; after executing multiple search warrants on accounts linked to Gonzalez, investigators identified and charged him with Title 18 Section 3922 A1 — theft by deception (M1). The Pocono Township Police Department in Tannersville filed the charge.
