Lancaster officers, departments honored for drug diversion at Second Chance awards
Twelve officers and two departments were recognized for directing people with substance use disorders into pre- and post-arrest drug diversion programs that prioritize treatment over criminal charges.
Twelve police officers and two departments across Lancaster County were honored at the inaugural Second Chance Program Awards for referring people with substance use disorders into SecondChancePA (launched 2019) and Pathways to Recovery (founded 2022), programs that offer treatment as an alternative to criminal charges. The programs have helped nearly 6,000 people avoid criminal records through successful completion; winners included top referrers, rising officers, leaders in officer well-being, and a lifetime achievement honoree.
