North Charleston Police Warn Residents to Stay Safe During Dangerous Heat
NCPD advises hydration, avoiding peak sun hours (11am–3pm), wearing light clothing, staying in air-conditioned spaces and checking on vulnerable people to prevent heat-related illnesses.
The North Charleston Police Department says dangerously high temperatures can lead to deadly heat-related illnesses, particularly among the elderly, young children and people with pre-existing conditions. Officials recommend drinking plenty of water, avoiding strenuous activity during the hottest hours (11am–3pm), wearing lightweight clothing and hats, staying in air-conditioned spaces and checking on vulnerable neighbors, friends and family. If someone shows signs of heat-related illness—dizziness, nausea, headaches or muscle cramps—seek medical attention immediately or call 9-1-1.
