On Aug. 17 and Aug. 18, 2026, North Huntingdon Township Police received multiple reports of callers impersonating Allegheny County Sheriff's Deputies who claimed victims missed a court subpoena and had warrants issued. Victims were instructed to withdraw money and deposit it into kiosks using Bitcoin wallet QR codes while kept on the phone; scammers also sent AI-generated arrest-warrant images. Police warn no law enforcement agency requires cryptocurrency payments, are investigating, and advise anyone receiving similar calls to contact their local police department.
