Summit Police Add Extra October Patrols to Target Distracted Driving, Speeding, Occupant Protection and Drunk Driving
Extra patrols will run Oct. 1–23, 2026 to enforce distracted driving, occupant protection, speed awareness and drunk driving campaigns.
The Summit Police Department will increase patrols from October 1 through October 23, 2026, to support four traffic-safety campaigns: Distracted Driving, Occupant Protection, Speed Awareness and Drunk Driving. The enforcement initiatives are administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation using federal highway safety funds managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The department says the extra patrols aim to keep the public safe and remind drivers to make good decisions on the road.
