Happy Fire Prevention Week: 'Charge Into Fire Safety' — Safe Charging Tips from West Whiteland
West Whiteland Fire Company shares lifesaving tips for preventing lithium‑ion battery fires during Fire Prevention Week.
West Whiteland Fire Company volunteers, who serve the community around the clock, highlight this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme: “Charge Into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower!” They warn that improperly charged or damaged lithium‑ion batteries can overheat and ignite, and advise using the manufacturer’s charger, avoiding charging on beds or couches, unplugging at 100%, and stopping use if a battery gets hot, smells odd, or deforms. Residents are also urged to test home smoke alarms and thank local firefighters and police who respond together in emergencies.
