Efforts to raise the minimum wage in Pennsylvania have stalled in the Senate, meaning Pennsylvania’s minimum wage remains at $7.25 per hour.
House Bill 2189 to raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour passed in the Pa. House.
The bill would raise the state’s minimum wage to $11 per hour, then $13 in 2028, and $15 in 2029.
However, the bill has remained dormant in the Republican-led Pa. Senate.
Senate Democrats attempted press the issue by filing a discharge petition to force a floor vote. Senate Republicans voted down the measure
The vote effectively keeps the bill off the Senate calendar.
The minimum wage has not increased in 17 years.
Proponents of the increase noted that the state currently ties for the lowest minimum wage in the U.S.
Opponents argue that raising the minimum wage would eventually cost jobs.
