Resurrected Community Development opens $7.2M early childhood center in Allentown
A renovated 73-year-old building will become a state-of-the-art early childhood learning facility offering expanded programs, family supports and food initiatives.
A $7.2 million project to address critical needs in Allentown is one step closer to reality.
Resurrected Community Development Corporation and Finanta, in partnership with Truist, held a ribbon-cutting recently for its new state-of-the-art early childhood learning facility.
The stakeholders called it an investment in childcare access, job creation, and economic development in Allentown.
The ceremony was held on Juneteenth.
“On Juneteenth, we commemorate not only freedom delayed, but freedom pursued — through faith, education, community, and the unwavering belief that our children deserve every opportunity to thrive,” said Rev. Dr. Gregory Edwards, senior pastor of Resurrected Life Church, and president and CEO, Resurrected Community Development Corporation. “It is therefore deeply meaningful that on this day of remembrance and liberation, we open the doors of a new institution dedicated to nurturing the brilliance, dignity, and future of children in the heart of Allentown.”
Truist Community Capital invested $2.2 million and expects to receive $2.7 million in New Markets Tax Credits over the next seven years. Truist partnered with Finanta to facilitate the renovation of a 73-year-old building to create a state-of-the-art learning facility with expanded education programs, employment opportunities, family support initiatives and food programs.
“Financing the state-of-the-art Children’s Academy aligns with our mission to advance economic opportunities for individuals and families,” said Daniel Betancourt, CEO, Finanta. “Finanta is proud to support this project, which will make an impact in the Allentown community by creating new jobs, increasing educational opportunities, and building bridges for opportunity, hope, and prosperity.”
The center is expected to create 30 new jobs when it opens in the fall.
