Shannon Mattern to Present “Manual Not Included: The Limits of Repair”

Shannon Mattern, director of creative research at the Metropolitan New York Library Council, will present “Manual Not Included: The Limits of Repair” on March 26, 2026, at Lafayette’s Williams Center for the Arts. The free public lecture is the second event in the Spring 2026 Arts, Democracy, and Technology Forum; refreshments will be served.

Please join the Arts at Lafayette for the second event in the Arts, Democracy, and Technology Forum. Prof. Shannon Mattern, director of creative research at the Metropolitan New York Library Council, will give a lecture titled “Manual Not Included: The Limits of Repair.” Mattern is the author of four books, including The New Downtown Library: Designing with CommunitiesDeep Mapping the Media City; Code and Clay, Dirt and Data: 5,000 Years of Urban Media; and A City Is Not a Computer. In spring 2025, she was the Kluge Chair in Modern Culture at the Library of Congress, a position nominated by the Librarian of Congress. This event is free and open to the public.
